Off to a late start today, needed to organize our suitcases and tidy up. We went to a great little coffee shop in Brooklyn called Joyce Bakery. Sharon tells me the coffee is much better than Starbucks. Then we grabbed some bagels from Bergen Bagels and headed to Brooklyn Industries before walking across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan. Before we started across, Sharon had an ice cream cone from the world famous Brooklyn Ice Cream Co at the foot of the bridge.
What an adventure walking across the bridge was. Bikers, runners, mommies pushing strollers and tons of walkers, all walking on wood slats that make up the pedestrian walkway above the roaring traffic below. Not at all scary but noisy. Beautiful views of Manhattan Bridge, Manhattan, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn and a great place to just people watch. Many people stepped into the bike lane to take pictures and were nearly mowed over by the bikers blowing whistles and ringing bells as they zoomed across the bridge.
When we got to the Manhattan side of the bridge, a helpful stranger (and we were pleasantly surprised to encounter quite a few while we were in New York) stopped us and asked us if we were lost. Apparently we (or at least me) looked lost while we were looking at a map. Anyway, he told us exactly how to get to Tribeca and Soho from where we were so we headed out walking again. Boy did we rack up some miles on the bottoms of our shoes. We looked around Tribeca until Sharon spotted a Starbucks, so naturally we had to stop in there for a few minutes. Good thing too because it had gotten windy outside. After sitting that out, it was getting late so we headed back to Brooklyn for the evening.
Nick and Corre took us to Frannies in Brooklyn for pizza and wine. We had tried to go there a few nights earlier but the place was packed at 10:00PM. Tonight it was again packed at 9:30PM but we got 4 seats at the bar and had yummy pizzas. We'll be going to Grimaldi's tomorrow to do a taste comparison.
