Today was our last full day in New York so of course we also had to try to get in everything we hadn't gotten to before and then some. Both of us were exhausted and our feet were burning but we HAD to push on to see everything.
We had breakfast this day in Manhattan at an organic foods restaurant. Surprisingly, there are a lot of organic and good food types of restaurants in New York. But of course we had to have a Papaya hot dog fully loaded later that day. Actually they were kind of small weiners and didn't have a lot of flavor. Oh well.
Sharon finally found a scarf she liked and was delighted but was still searching for THE purse (she never found it). We went to another Brooklyn Industries store in Greenwich Village to see if they had anything different than the one in Brooklyn.
We had lunch this day at a place called Swich (pressed sandwiches are their specialty). Everyone ate one long table. After eating really great sandwiches for a few minutes, the guy across from us started a conversation. We apparently looked like outsiders. Can't understand why, maybe it was the backpack and the haggard look on our faces. Turns out he was a 50ish burned out ex-lawyer that had lived in New York all his life and wouldn't leave it for anything. We had a really interesting talk with him. He was using a Kindle to read a book when we got there so I asked him about it and he went on to completely describe how he uses it and how well he likes it. Gotta think about getting one of those some day.
After leaving Swich, we took the subway back to the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge for one final look at it and to have a piece of Grimaldi's pizza. After walking through the park at the foot of the bridge, we headed, by foot, back to Nick and Corre's apt, some 3 miles away. We started by walking down a long promenade along the waterfront by the Brooklyn bridge, down to where it meets up with Atlantic Ave. We then proceeded to walk the entire 1.5 miles of Atlantic Ave to get a look at some small stores that we hadn't seen during the Atlantic Antic street fair on last Saturday.
Before we knew it, it was almost dark and we were glad to finally reach Nick and Corre's apt. Corre was at yoga class so we relaxed with a glass of wine while we waited for her. After she got home, we went out to dinner at 10:00PM at the Beast in Brooklyn. We all had wonderful dinners. I had a delicious strip steak, Sharon had a special hamburger sandwich and Corre had an Italian bread salad. Great stuff, great wine.
Terrific ending to our trip in Brooklyn. Thank you Nick and Corre for the great time.
We're so happy that they will be moving back to the Pacific Northwest soon (next year). We miss them dearly.
