Day 12, October 7, Brooklyn & Manhattan

Nick took us to breakfast at Cheryl's Cafe in Brooklyn. We got to sit outside and the breakfast and surroundings were lovely. Except that it was really windy and a small branch broke off and hit me in the head. It was nice and warm that morning. The weather the entire time in Brooklyn was fantastic. There was only one day of rain during the whole time there.

Nick was able to take us to breakfast because he was at home getting ready to fly off to London later that day to assist with a photo shoot until next Tuesday when he flies home. He didn't really want to leave but it was a good opportunity for him and a way to pick up some extra $.

After we left Nick, we headed to Manhattan to see the Metropolitan Museum of Art which is a magnificent collection of some of the world's best art. We wanted to go to the Empire State Building but found after getting there that the line to get in was huge and we would have had to have gotten there much sooner and probably get advanced reservation tickets in order to get in. We'll have to save that for our next trip.

We can understand how people stay so slim in New York. You hardly ever see anyone as overweight as we have in Seattle. That's because in order to go anywhere, you have to have a car (and that's a very small % of the people in New York) or you have to climb tons of stairs and walk miles each day to get to where you are going. You can eat like a real pig in New York and still not gain weight.

Early in the afternoon we went to Grand Central Station. What a terrific piece of architecture. Beautifully designed and maintained. Lots of little stores and of course, the mass of humanity was in the station trying to make train connections on at least 50 different trains at once. In the main concourse we encountered half a dozen of New York's finest policemen wearing full body armor and toting fully automatic machine guns. Don't know if it was for appearance or if there had been some threat. They were just kind of joking amongst themselves but still imposing.

Sharon notes that no matter who you are in New York, if you have a stylish scarf and an expensive purse, you've got it made.

We went off to see more of Manhattan and then came back to Grand Central Station that evening for dinner at the Oyster Bar & Restaurant. We both had great meals.

By the time we got back to Brooklyn, it was after 9:30PM and we found that Corre had already gone to bed.

Another exhausting day.
