Day 9, October 4, Brooklyn

Went to church at St Augustine in Brooklyn. Lovely, very old cathedral style church. Afterwards, we found a bagel place called Bergen Bagels that even Nick and Corre hadn't been to before. The bagels and the cream cheese were excellent. We took a bag of bagels back to the apt. Corre had made popovers from scratch before we got there so we had some great treats for breakfast.

Corre's brother Bubba came over and we all soon left to go see Governor's Island, a large island off Manhattan that used to be used by the Coast Guard. There are barracks and officer's quarters all over the island and lovely parks available to anyone wanting to take a short ferry from Brooklyn. The views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty were outstanding. Corre told us that the island is being closed to the public in 2 weeks as apparently it is going to turned into a university. It's really that big. While we were walking around the island we came across a large roped off area where a 20's-30's dance band and people were dressed up in clothes from that era dancing to the music.

After we left Governor's Island, we walked a mile or so to what turned out to be a 1.5 mile long street fair called the Atlantic Antic. Everything under the sun from crafts to foods and music. Beer to numb the senses was the only way we made it through. Ultimately it was fun and entertaining.

Then we walked to a restaurant and met up with Corre's running partner for a drink at his birthday party. Corre's sister, Cara and her new baby Rhen, joined us for awhile. He did great for only being a week old.

Even though it had been a long day for all, Nick made a yummy pasta chicken toss for dinner. Yea Nick.
