Day 5, September 30, Burlington, VT to Montreal, Quebec, to Plattsburgh, NY

It was kind of chilly leaving Burlington so we stopped at Starbucks for coffee before hitting the road. I was kind of panicking about traversing the border into Canada and then the streets in Montreal. The border was completely uneventful. No lines at all and barely any questions. We had good maps of Montreal and it turned out getting into Montreal wasn't nearly as hard as I had expected (of course). Everyone that we met was very nice and everyone gladly spoke to us in our language instead of making us speak to them in their language.

Then we to the underground shopping area in the center of town. Hundreds of stores underneath the streets, spread over blocks and blocks. Mind blowing.

The exchange rate wasn't very good. The bank made money selling money to us and buying money from us. When we left the garage where our car was parked, the attendant attempted to tell us where to go to get out of the city. Well either he didn't know where to tell us to go and just made up something or we totally misunderstood him. We got very lost very fast and ran across, of all places, a Costco where a gas attendant thankfully helped us figure out where we were and where we needed to go to get on the road to Plattsburgh, NY. The trip across the border into NY was quick and simple and the drive to Plattsburgh was nice but very chilly. Stayed at the Microtel hotel, very new, very simple but nice.

We heard on TV that night that it was actually snowing in Lake Placid the night we got there. Winter is already coming to the Adirondacks.
